Annual Budget

The City Council adopted the budget on Monday, June 2, 2008. Copies of the Approved budget book will be available in the near future.

The priorities reflected in this budget are consistent with the goals set by the City Council and reflect the projected workload and funding. The themes throughout the budget relate to:

  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Maintain a high level of City Services
  • Invest in El Cerrito (including to finish the projects that are already underway)
  • Environmental Leadership

With continued citizen participation, City Council leadership, and ongoing efforts of our dedicated employees, El Cerrito will continue to improve as a quality place to live, work, play and shop.

Role of the City Manager

The primary role of the City Manager is to professionally manage the City government and to be responsible for the efficient administration of all affairs and departments operating within the City under the policies established by the City Council. The City Manager is the administrative head of the City and is employed by and directly responsible to the City Council.

The City Manager's functions include:

  • Implementing policies and directives from the City Council.

  • Overseeing and managing the services and programs provided by all City departments.

  • Developing alternatives for siting, designing, developing, and financing a new Civic Center facility for consideration by the City Council and Redevelopment Agency.

  • Preparing and submitting for adoption a balanced budget that identifies all the revenues and expenditures anticipated in the forthcoming Fiscal Year.

  • Continuing to build and develop a strong management team by providing professional growth opportunities through attendance at seminars, professional meetings, management development training and other in-house development activities.

  • Continuing to provide general direction to ensure that capital projects come on-line and are accomplished within specified time frames.
