On Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 1905 hours an officers were dispatched to the Copeland’s store located at 300 El Cerrito Plaza for a person threatening someone with a knife. The investigation revealed that a 17 year old Pinole juvenile had stolen a pair of shoes and pants. When the store employees tried to arrest him they were approached by two friends of the juvenile, Devin Attyberry and Ismail Khairoulin, both 18. Attyberry and Khairoulin produced pocket knives and threatened the store employees to gain the release of their friend. Attyberry and Khairoulin were booked on charges of making criminal threats and brandishing a weapon and transported to the county jail. The juvenile was booked on a charge of petty theft and released to a family member.

On Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 1705 hours officers responded to the Albertson’s store, located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on report of a shoplifter in custody. Miguel Cabrera, a 20 year old Richmond resident was arrested by store employees after he was seen placing items into a bag he had brought with him and failing to pay for the items. He was booked on a charge of burglary and was transported to the county jail.

On Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 1350 hours officers responded to the parking lot of Orchard Supply Hardware, located at 1751 Eastshore Blvd on report of a man with a gun. The officers detained Joseph Morris, a 64 year old Richmond resident and learned that he had not ha a gun but a collapsible baton and mace. He had been detaining two individuals he had believed were stealing mulch bags from the loading area. Morris was arrested for possessing the collapsible baton, a felony possession of a deadly weapon. Morris was transported to the county jail.

On Thursday, September 28the, 2006 at 1115 hours detectives conducted an arrest at a residence in the 600 block of Elm St. During the arrest of Jose Alvarez, a 38 year old El Cerrito resident on an outstanding warrant the officers located a quantity of methamphetamine. The officers arrested Alvarez and Joanne Aquino, a 37 year old El Cerrito female for possession of methamphetamine. The pair was released on citations for the El Cerrito charge and Alvarez was transported to the county jail for his arrest warrant.

On Monday, September 25th 2006, at 1700 hours, an officer was dispatched to Big 5 Sporting Goods located at 11060 San Pablo Ave. for an in-custody embezzlement case. The security manager called and advised they had an employee, identified as manager Myron Woods of Richmond in custody for theft and identity theft. After booking Woods was transported to MDF. Woods had taken personal information from documents obtained from victims in the store to use in obtaining credit.

A Search Warrant was served on Woods’ home the following day by detectives. Additional stolen property and personal information was located inside Woods’ residence. This case will be forwarded to the Richmond D.A.’s Office to file charges.

On Monday September 25, 2006, an Officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for a Vehicle Code violation. During the traffic stop the driver, Tony Bonanno from Pittsburg, lied about his identity and was found to have two outstanding arrest warrants. A search of Bonanno’s vehicle revealed he was in possession of a suspected controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Bonnano was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail.

Report no.06-17348

On Sunday September 24, 2006, an Officer from the El Cerrito Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for a Vehicle Code violation. The vehicle did not pull over and led officers from The El Cerrito Police Department and the Richmond Police Department on a several mile vehicle pursuit through El Cerrito and Richmond. As the vehicle attempted to make a turn it was involved in a solo vehicle collision on Cutting Blvd. near S. 41st Street in the City of Richmond. The driver, Aaron Pennell from Stockton, was taken into custody. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and the vehicle was determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle that was stolen from the City of Lodi that night. Aaron Pennell was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail.

On Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 at 2355 hours officers responded to the area of the Wells Fargo Bank located at 9800 San Pablo Ave on report of a disturbance. The officers located the source of the disturbance and after an investigation arrested Alia Wilkerson, 29 year old Richmond resident for battery. Wilkerson was transported to the county jail on charges of battery.

On Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 at 2210 hours officers responded to the 5900 block of Central Ave on report of a disturbance. After an investigation, the officers arrested Ronald Butler, a 36 year old El Cerrito Resident and Rochelle Williams, a 31 year old San Francisco female for battery. Both were transported to county jail on charges of battery.

ON Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 at 1445 hours officers responded to the Target Store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave on report of a theft in progress. An officer contacted the suspect on Hill Street at San Pablo Ave and detained him. The store employees identified the suspect and he was booked at El Cerrito Police Department on charges of burglary. The suspect, Juan Zamora, a 27 year old Transient was transported to the county jail.

On Friday, September 22, 2006, at 1357 hours officers were dispatched to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue regarding a theft. The officers arrived and conducted an investigation. The officers arrested a 16 year old juvenile and a 17 year old juvenile for burglary. The juveniles were booked and then released to their guardians.

On Wednesday September 20, 2006, Officers from the El Cerrito Police Department responded to a house located in the 1900 block of Francisco Way to attempt to serve an arrest warrant. As the Officers were outside the house the homeowner came out of the house. One of the Officers ran a license plate number of a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of the home. Dispatch informed the Officer that the vehicle was reported stolen. The homeowner told the Officers the person who drove the vehicle to her house was inside the house. Officers went inside the home and arrested Tanya Harrison from Albany for possession of the stolen vehicle. Officers located some suspected controlled substances in her purse. Tanya Harrison was transported to Contra Costa County Jail.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at 1744 hours officers responded to the Albertson’s store located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza regarding a theft. The officers arrived and conducted an investigation. The officers arrested Eugene Caffey, a 23 year old transient, for stealing about $625.00 worth of liquor. The officers booked Caffey for one count of 487 PC- Grand Theft and then sent him to the county jail. The case was submitted to the D.A.’s Office for a complaint.

On September 20, 2006, at 1540 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue regarding a theft. The officers conducted an investigation and arrested a 16 year old juvenile for burglary. The juvenile was booked and then released to his / her guardian.

Report no.06-17108

On Thursday September 20th, 2006 at 1445 hours while officers were circulating on a report of unsubstantiated man with a gun at the Castro Elementary School they were made aware of two 9 year old students from The Castro Elementary that had been attacked by two other older students. Two 13 year old suspects jumped out of the bushes on the lower playground after school had let out and most students had left. One of the suspects grabbed a 9 year old student around the neck with one arm and held a 10 inch double edged dagger to the student’s neck. He then let the younger student go and the other suspect took a turn doing the same thing with a smaller pocket knife. The pair then threw the victim down to the ground and left walking away and laughing. The victim student did not sustain any injuries.

The victim recognized one of the attackers as a previous student of the school who was now in middle school. Officers were able to identify the suspect through a year book. The suspect 13 year old was contacted at his home and arrested. The second suspect was identified and his parent brought him to the police department. Both 13 year old students were arrested for felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possessing weapons on campus. They were transported to the juvenile hall.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at about 1130 hours officers were dispatched to Portola Junior High School located at 1021 Navellier Street, regarding a juvenile possibly bringing a handgun onto the campus. The officers arrived and conducted an investigation. The officers arrested two juveniles for bringing a soft air pistol onto the school grounds. The juveniles were booked and then released to their guardians.

On Monday, September 18th, 2006, around 1120 hours, officers were dispatched to the Bank of America located at 10422 San Pablo Ave. for a forgery in progress. Bank employees reported the suspect was attempting to cash a suspicious check. Upon their arrival, officers located the suspect, who was identified as Chanae Sanders of Oakland.

During the investigation, officers determined the check had been stolen from a mailbox earlier in the day in Oakland. Sanders was transported to the county jail after booking. This report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

On Saturday, September 16, 2006, at 1952 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue regarding a theft. The officers conducted an investigation and arrested Kenneth Williams, a 55 year old San Pablo resident, for stealing about $71.00 worth of batteries. The officers booked Williams for a single felony count of 666 P.C.- Petty Theft With Priors and then sent him to the county jail.

On Saturday, September 16th, 2006 at 0440 hours officers responded to the 7700 block of Terrace Drive on report of a hit and run collision. Officers conducted an investigation and learned that the collision had been a purposeful event and that the suspect had also “keyed” the car. The suspect was identified as Albert Jawad, a 19 year old El Cerrito resident.

On September 24th, 2006 the investigating officer contacted Jawad and arrested him on charges of felony vandalism. He was transported to the county jail.

Report no.06-16839

On Saturday September 16, 2006, an Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Vehicle Code violation on Carlson Blvd. at El Dorado Avenue. Upon making the traffic stop a passenger stepped out of the vehicle and became verbally hostile with the Officer. The Officer ordered the woman to get back into the vehicle and she refused and began to advance towards the officer in a threatening manner. When the woman would not comply with the Officer’s commands to get back into the vehicle the Officer grabbed the woman in order to detain her in handcuffs for his safety. The woman began to strike the Officer and resisted arrest. Other officers arrived and the woman was taken into custody. The officer sustained three scratch marks on the back of his head approximately six to eight inches in length. The woman was identified as Carla Riggi from San Francisco. Carla Riggi provided a breath sample at the El Cerrito Police Department and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. She was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail for Battery on a Police Officer.

On Friday, September 15, 2006, at 1520 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue regarding a theft. The officers conducted an investigation and arrested Charles Sample, a 52 year old transient, for stealing about $200.00 worth of Music CDs. The officers booked Sample for a single felony count of 666 P.C.- Petty Theft With Priors and he was transported to the county jail.

Report no.06-16715

An Officer from the El Cerrito Police Department attempted to stop a Jaguar with no license plates near the intersection of Carlson Blvd. and Imperial Ave. and the vehicle did not stop. The driver drove the vehicle into the Richmond Annex and collided with a parked car on San Mateo Ave. near Fresno Ave. A check of the vehicle determined that it was stolen out of San Anselmo. The driver of the vehicle, Mario Castillo, was located in the area and El Cerrito Police Officer’s took him into custody in the backyard of 5300 Sacramento Ave. While at this location, El Cerrito Police Officers arrested Bruce Hill on an outstanding El Cerrito arrest warrant and his co-habitant Yolanda Minjarez for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The passenger in Castillo’s vehicle, a 16 year old runaway from Sacramento, was located on San Pablo Ave. by an El Cerrito Police Detective. The juvenile had an arrest warrant out of Sacramento County and was taken to Juvenile Hall.

On September 14, 2006, Officer’s from the El Cerrito Police Department responded to Albertson’s located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza for the report of a theft. When they arrived they found Albertson’s Loss Prevention had detained Andrew Bates a 20 year old San Francisco resident, for shoplifting $16 worth of merchandise. The El Cerrito Police Department accepted the Citizens Arrest of Bates. Bates was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail on charges of theft with priors.

On September 13, 2006, an officer from the El Cerrito Police Department was flagged down by an Albertson’s employee as he was driving through the El Cerrito Plaza. The employee told the Officer a woman had just stolen some batteries from Albertson’s and walked out of the store. The officer located the suspect, who was identified as Sherry Edwards, a 44 year old Richmond resident, near another business in the El Cerrito Plaza and took her into custody for the theft. Edwards was found to be in possession of merchandise from Albertson’s totaling $76. Edwards was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail on charges of theft with priors.

Report no.06-16628

On Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 1900 hours a 14 year old girl was reported missing by her mother. She returned home at approximately 2245 hours. At that time she revealed that she had been followed home by an ex-boyfriend. Once at her home he forcefully put her into his vehicle and drove her to his home in Richmond. He would not allow her to leave and drove her to numerous other locations before she talked her way out. During her statement she revealed that she had been sexually assaulted in El Cerrito by the suspect approximately a month ago. On Wednesday, September 13, 2006 the suspect returned to the victim’s residence. The victim called the police and officers took Curtis Mahaffey Jr., an 18 year old Richmond male into custody after a brief struggle. He has been booked for kidnapping, stalking, sexual assault, and resisting arrest. He was transported to the County Jail. The case will be reviewed by the DA’s office for prosecution.

On September 9, 2006, Officer’s from the El Cerrito Police Department responded to Albertson’s located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza for the report of a theft. When they arrived they found Albertson’s Loss Prevention had detained a subject for exiting the store with a bottle of alcohol without paying for it. The El Cerrito Police Department accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of James Jackson who lives in the City of Oakland. Jackson was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail on a charge of burglary.

On Thursday, September 7th, 2006 at 2000 hours officers responded to the Albertson’s store located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on report of a shoplifter in custody. Stanley Byias, a 56 year old Richmond resident had been seen placing two packages of meat in his pants. He had then left the store without paying for the meat. Byias was found to have several prior convictions for theft and was booked on a charge of theft with priors. He was transported to the county jail.

On Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 at 1320 hours officers were flagged down in the El Cerrito Plaza at the Shoe Pavilion on report of a theft that had just occurred. The suspects were contacted while still in the Plaza area. The suspects were identified as Yvette Jones, a 45 year old San Francisco resident and Morris Leviege, a 46 year old San Pablo resident. They had taken shoes from the store after removing the security sensors. Leviege was wearing his “new” shoes. Both were arrested for theft with priors. Jones had an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. The pair was transported to the county jail.

On Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 at 0730 hours an El Cerrito Motor officer was monitoring the Carpool lane exit at Cutting Blvd and I-80 when he made a traffic enforcement stop on a car as it entered the Eastbound I-80 from Cutting Blvd. During the stop the vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen in San Francisco in July. The driver, Andrea Deams, a 22 year old Oakland resident and the passenger Don Austin, a 26 year old San Francisco male were booked and released pending further investigation into the theft of the car.

Report no.06-16131

On Monday, September 4th, 2006 at 1900 hours officer responded to the El Cerrito Plaza on report of threats being made with a gun. The victims were a family with a six year old son walking in the area of Albertson’s. The two suspects had made sexual comments to the wife and then threatened to kill the husband and the son and gestured that he had a gun. The suspects, Bryan Lee, 22 years old and Aaron Christian, 18 years old, both form Richmond were arrested near the Ross store for making terrorist threats. No weapons were found. They were both transported to the county jail.
