On Thursday, November 30th, 2006 at 1600 hours Chief of Police Scott Kirkland conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a Honda Prelude at San Pablo Avenue and Hill Street. The Chief was able to determine the VIN plate had been tampered with. The vehicle was determined to be stolen on November 18th in Daly City. The driver, Courtney Caldas, a 21 year old Richmond resident was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Caldas was transported to the county jail. On Thursday, November 30th, 2006 at 1315 hours officers responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of Lexington Avenue. After an investigation, Anthony Brown, a 30 year old El Cerrito resident was arrested for violation of a restraining order. Jeanell Smith, a 38 year old El Cerrito resident was arrested for an assault. The pair were booked and transported to the county jail. On Thursday, November 30th, 2006 at 0920 hours officers responded to a theft in progress at Safeway, located at 10636 San Pablo Ave. The officers positioned themselves outside the store and when the two suspects emerged they were ordered to stop. The pair fled back into the store and were taken into custody as they were throwing items back into the shelves. Ivory Owens Jr. a 38 year old Oakland resident and Devon Bates, a 31 year old San Leandro resident were arrested and booked for burglary charges and transported to the county jail. On Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 at 1140 hours an officer made an enforcement stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The driver pulled into a driveway and ran to a house in the 5000 block of Creely Ave. When the officer contacted the driver an attempted to detain him the driver struggled and kicked one of two officers while he was being handcuffed. The officer did not sustain any injuries. The driver, Jeffrey Ford, a 21 year old Richmond resident was booked on charges of resisting arrest, driving without a license and batter on an officer. The officers contacted Christina Cranshaw, a 37 year old El Cerrito resident and after an investigation arrested her for an assault. She was transported to the county jail. On Saturday, November 25th, 2006 at 0435 hours an officer observed two males rummaging through a vehicle parked at Schmidt Lane and Everett St. As the officer approached, the pair fled the car. Officers caught the pair in the nearby block. It was determined that the pair had forced their way into the car and were in the process of taking items from the car when interrupted by the officer. Sergio Ibarra, a 22 year old Richmond resident and Jesus Ponce, a 31 year old Rodeo resident were arrested for auto burglary and transported to the county jail. On Friday, November 24th, 2006 at 2300 hours an officer stopped a vehicle for traffic enforcement at Stockton Avenue and Kearney Street. A passenger of the vehicle was found to have a concealed knife on his person and was arrested for possession of a deadly weapon. A pair of metal knuckles was also found in the car adjacent to where the passenger was sitting. Martin Guadarrama Jr., a 19 year old Suisun City male was arrested and booked on two counts of possession a deadly weapon and transported to the county jail. On Friday, November 24th, 2006 at 1500 hours officers responded to the Guitar Center, located at 10300 San Pablo Ave on report that someone was trying to sell a stolen guitar. Officers arrived and contacted three individuals involved in trying to sell the guitar. Raul Rodriguez, a 41 year old male, Leann Forester, a 41 year old, and a 17 year old male, all from Richmond were arrested for trying to sell the guitar that had been stolen in a residential burglary in Pinole earlier in the month. Forester and Rodriguez were released pending further investigation. The juvenile was released to his parent. On Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 at 2255 hours an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at San Pablo Ave and Knott Ave. He contacted the driver and learned that his license was suspended. During a search of the vehicle the officer located a small amount of methamphetamine. The driver, Ronald Wulferdinger, a 56 year old Richmond resident was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. After booking he was released on a citation. On Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 at 1720 hours officers responded to the Albertson’s store located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on report of a shoplifter in custody. Dalton Sykes, a 54 year old Richmond resident had selected $125 worth of meat and placed it in a duffle bag he had brought into the store. The suspect then left the store without paying for the meat. He was detained by the store employees. He was found to have prior convictions for theft and charged with theft with priors and transported to the county jail. On Sunday, November 19th, 2006 at 2305 hours officers contacted two individuals in the 800 block of Pomona Ave during a suspicious person incident. Stephanie Gutierrez, a 34 year old Richmond resident was found to be carrying pepper spray, a misdemeanor with a felony conviction. Gutierrez was found to have a felony history. She was arrested and during the contact was found to have property belonging to another person. Several days later the property was found to have been taken from a car burglary in El Cerrito. On Sunday, November 19th, 2006 at 1115 hours an officer stopped a vehicle for traffic enforcement at 9999 San Pablo Ave. The driver, Tracy Shakleford, a 41 year old Richmond resident had identified herself verbally as her sister due to not having a valid license. The officer conducted an investigation into her identity and determined that she was not telling the truth about her identity. Shakleford was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department where she finally gave her true identity. She was charged with false impersonation, a felony and transported to the county jail. On Saturday, November 18th, 2006 at 1415 hours an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a bicyclist at San Pablo Ave at Manila Ave. The bicyclist, Robert Shaw, a 50 year old El Sobrante male was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for drug offenses. During booking he was found to have several bindles of a white powdery substance. The substance was not a controlled substance but Shaw stated he was trying to sell it as a controlled substance. He was booked on his warrant and a charge of a false controlled substance and transported to the county jail. On Friday, November 17th, 2006 at 2240 hours an officer contacted a man in the Creekside Park, located at the dead end of Santa Clara Ave. Thomas Albino, a 40 year old transient was found to have a warrant for his arrest. A search subsequent to his arrest located a small amount of a crystalline methamphetamine and a loaded syringe, also containing methamphetamine. Albino was booked on possession of a controlled substance and transported to the county jail. On Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 at 1315 hours officers responded to the Target Store on report of a Forgery that had just occurred. The suspect, Joan Clark a 26 year old Richmond resident had presented a check for payment on a gift certificate. The check was determined to be counterfeit check and Clark left in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in Richmond and Clark was arrested after being identified by witnesses. She was booked on charges of Forgery, Burglary and Possession of a counterfeit item and transported to the county jail. On Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 at 1130 hours officers from the El Cerrito Police conducted a probation search at the residence of 5300 Sacramento Ave. Two stolen vehicles, a 1996 Honda Accord and a 1994 Lexus LS were recovered parked in front of the home. Three adults were arrested in the home: Bruce Hill, 51 years old, Kristin Nackerud, 39 years old, and Carleton Smith, a 33 year old. A fourth adult was arrested as he arrived at the home, Douglas Penn, a 44 year old Richmond resident. Hill and Nakerud, were charged with possession of methamphetamine for sales. Smith was released on a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. Penn had an arrest warrant for car theft. Hill, Nakerud and Penn were all transported to the county jail. On Thursday, November 16th, 2006 at 1825 hours officers from the El Cerrito Police Department served a search and arrest warrant at the home of Achi BenShalom, a 52 year old El Cerrito resident in relation to an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor. BenShalom was transported to the county jail on $100,000 bail. The charges stem from a series of events occurring at the Tehiyah Day School located at 2603 Tassajara Ave over a recent one month period. The victim is a female student. The allegations came to light when the victim told her family of the incidents. The incidents occurred in BenShalom’s office after school hours. On Monday, November 13th, 2006 at 0245 hours, an officer observed a man outside of a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Richmond St. As the officer turned around to contact the man he fled in the van into the residential area. The officer re-contacted the man as he walked away from the parked van in the area of Potrero Ave and Kearney St. When the officer tried to stop the man he fled on foot. He was found hiding in the ivy on the BART path. The van he had driven was reported stolen to the Richmond Police that morning. Items in the van were found to belong to a victim of a car break in on Glenwood Way in El Cerrito from the last few hours. Ramon Cruz, a 27 year old Richmond male was booked on charges of Car theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also found to have three no bail warrants for his arrest for drug and burglary charges. On Sunday, November 12th, 2006 at 2110 hours, an officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for registration violations at San Pablo Ave at Stockton Ave. The driver, Israel Mendieta Casas, a 24 year old Oakland male was found to be an unlicensed driver. In the rear of his pickup truck he had a large stack of pallets from Trader Joes. After the officers contacted the management at Trader Joes Casas was arrested for possession stolen property. The pallets are reused and had a value of approximately $750. Casas was transported to the county jail. On Sunday, November 12th, 2006 at 2000 hours an officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for a registration violation. At San Pablo Ave and Cutting Blvd. The driver, James Jackson a 46 year old Richmond resident informed the officer that there was a gun in the car when he was told the car was going to be towed. The officer located a loaded .38 caliber revolver in a leather case on the driver’s seat where Jackson had been sitting. A records check showed that Jackson was a convicted felon. He was booked on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and transported to the county jail. Martel Klasno, a 36 year old San Francisco male had selected various meat and alcohol items and then had left the store without paying for the items. He was found to have prior felony arrests for theft and had no means of paying for the items he had selected. He was booked on a charge of burglary and transported to the county jail. On Friday, November 10th, 2006 at 0905 hours an officer responded to the 1400 block of Arlington Blvd on report of a suspicious vehicle. The officer located a truck in the driveway of a home that had been broken into two weeks ago and found a man inside the home taking items. The man thought the home was abandoned and the items were free for the taking. The victim was on vacation out of state. Peter Szerlip, a 39 year old Richmond male was arrested for residential burglary and transported to the county jail. On Thursday, November 09, 2006 at 0055 hours officers responded to the area of Gladys Avenue and Lawrence Street on multiple calls of shots fired. Officers arrived and located several casings from fired bullets in the street. Neighborhood witnesses that had heard the shots also heard several vehicles leaving the area. A canvass of the area was unable to locate any vehicles or homes damaged by the shots. There was no evidence that anyone had been hit by the bullets. On Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 at 1015 hours the victim of a strong arm robbery came to the front counter of the El Cerrito Police Department reporting that she had just been robbed of her cell phone on the BART path in the area of Eureka Ave. The victim had been approached by three juveniles and asked to use her cell phone for an emergency. When she asked for her phone back the group began tossing it amongst themselves. When she tried to grab her phone back the suspect slapped her hand away and the group left with the phone. Officers responded to the area to search for the suspects. An officer located the main suspect getting onto an AC Transit bus at San Pablo Ave and Moeser Ln. The victim identified him as the main responsible in the robbery. The 17 year old Richmond resident was booked on a robbery charge and sent to the juvenile hall. On Sunday, November 5th, 2006 at 2350 hours, an officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle at San Pablo Ave and Manila Ave for a vehicle that ran a red light. The driver, Erik Elliot, a 45 year old Kensington male was driving without a license. The owner of the car was contacted and it was learned that Elliot had stolen the keys and the car. While being searched for a knife he claimed to have on his person Elliot began to struggle with the officer and was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and burglary tools. On Saturday, November 4th, 2006 at 2330 hours an officer checking the area of a series of car vandalisms contacted a man sitting between two cars in the 1700 block of Arlington Blvd. As the officer conducted his investigation into whether the man was involved in the vandalisms he was found to have several hypodermic needles in his possession. He was arrested and transported to the El Cerrito Police department for booking. During the booking process officers learned that Shane Bugnatto, a 18 year old Lafayette male had provided his brother’s name in the field and would have been booked under the wrong name had the officer not discovered the lie. Bugnatto was charged with possession of hypodermic needles and false impersonation, a felony. He was transported to the county jail. Upon their arrival, officers detained Equoyia Smith, a 23 year old Oakland female. She had presented a stolen/altered check to be cashed. The check had apparently been stolen from outgoing mail. The suspect, Reginald Moon, a 45 year old San Pablo resident had selected clothing and concealed it under his shirt. He had been observed by a security guard and when he attempted to detain him outside the store Moon resisted. Moon was found to have several prior convictions for theft. On Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 at 0750 hours officers responded to the area of the 2000 block of Key Blvd on report of a naked man exposing himself. Officers located the man adjacent to the BART path in the 2000 block of Kearney St in the process of masturbating himself. The officers arrested John Sheehan, a 33 year old Pittsburg male on a charge of indecent exposure. It was discovered that he had secreted an Awl or ice pick in his anal cavity. Sheehan is currently on Parole and was released from prison last week. As prisoners will hide weapons in the anal cavity in prison to keep them from being detected Sheehan was also charged with a felony charge of possessing a concealed weapon. On 11-02-2006 at 0440 hours officers responded to the 500 block of Oak Street on report of a female screaming for help in an apartment. Officers arrived to find a 14 year old girl in an apartment with a 19 year old male. The female stated that the male suspect had pushed his way into the apartment after making several attempts to enter via windows. Once inside, he had pushed her down onto a bed and was in the process of removing her clothes when the officer arrived. Officers arrested Leonard Flynn, a 19 year old Oakland male on charges of Burglary and Assault with Intent to Commit Rape. He was transported to the county jail. On Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 at 1425 hours a traffic officer observed a 1986 Toyota Camry traveling east on MacDonald Avenue at Key Blvd. The Vehicle did not have a front license plate. The officer conducted a check on the rear license plate and learned that the car had been reported stolen to the Berkeley Police in 2005. The driver, Noah Sprague, a 37 year old Richmond resident was arrested for the stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license. He was released after booking pending further investigation into the status of the car. On Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 Ebony Darlisa Turner, a 31 year old Hercules resident was arrested by the Hercules police department on an El Cerrito Police arrest warrant obtained earlier in the day for her. This arrest clears an identity theft case that began in May 2006 when Turner obtained liposuction from The Cosmetic Surgical Center using the personal information of a female victim in San Jose. Turner had filled out a finance request to pay for the $5,200 surgery. She made attended several post surgery appointments before she was discovered. Turner was identified through a tattoo noted on past arrests. The case is being presented to the District Attorney’s office.
